Did you know Christopher Columbus is credited for discovering the Pineapple on the Caribbean Island of Guadalupe? He is. In fact it is said that he brought back other fruits along too! When Columbus first introduced them to Europe they became very sought after and popular. They were treated like expensive ornaments and became a celebrity fruit. So, when was the Plentiful Pineapple introduced to Hawaii? Well, it is believed that the Spanish introduced them there in 1527. And in 1899, James Dole arrived in Hawaii and started a Pineapple plantation a year later in Wahiawa. In Hawaii, the word for Pineapple is “Hala Kahiki”. Now enough about the Pineapple’s history let’s move on to the amazing health promoting benefits of this elegant delicious fruit!
